Easy way to cook German Currywurst

  1. For the best texture, pan-fry the bratwurst in a little oil over medium heat until lightly crispy on the outside.
  2. Alternatively, boil for 10-15 minutes if you prefer a softer texture. Remove from heat and slice into bite-sized pieces.
  3. In a saucepan, combine curry ketchup, tomato ketchup, curry powder, paprika, vinegar, and sugar.
  4. Stir well to mix the spices evenly.
  5. Taste and adjust the spice levels according to your preference.
  6.  If too spicy, add a splash of water or boil until the excess moisture evaporates for a thicker consistency.
  7. Grill or pan-fry as described above. Set aside once cooked.
  8. Simmer the curry sauce mixture over medium heat for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. If too thin, mix a bit of cornstarch with water and stir in until thickened.
  9. Slice the bratwurst into small pieces and arrange them on a plate or in a paper tray.
  10. Drizzle the curry sauce over the sausage pieces and sprinkle additional curry powder for extra flavor.

Pro version

  1. Use your own homemade sausages for a personalized touch.
  2. Mix in chili powder or smoked paprika for added heat and depth.
  3. Grill the sausages over charcoal for a smoky flavor before frying.

Tips / Plating:

  1. Serve in a paper tray with a small wooden fork for an authentic street food experience.
  2. Top with extra curry powder, finely chopped chives, or a dollop of mustard for added flavor and color.
  3. Serve with cold German Pilsner beer or a refreshing Apfelchorre, (apple sparkling water).
